Different Is Just Different

This children's picture book by Karen Tompkins features “Shoo Bear”, a lovable bear that helps children explore and celebrate how we are all different.

Shoo Bear is a play on Joubert Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects the brain before birth and has been a factor in the author's family life for many years. Tompkins shares her view that disability should not be viewed as a negative trait...simply a neutral factor that contributes to the overall nature of the individual.
